Η διαδρομή της Matera, στων αιώνων τα γυρίσματα, μένει εμβληματική. Η πανάρχαια ιστορία της, η χαρακτηριστική οικιστική της διάρθρωση, τα σπίτια – σπηλιές, τα αποκαλούμενα Sassi, η μοναδική, βιβλική φυσιογνωμία της, καθόρισαν παρελθόν και μέλλον μιας πόλης συμβόλου της ανθρώπινης αγωνίας αλλά και της εξέλιξης ενός απομονωμένου πολιτισμού.
Η Μatera, ανακηρύχθηκε το 1993, μνημείο πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς από την UNESCO, ενώ είναι υποψήφια πολιτιστική πρωτεύουσα Ευρώπης για το έτος 2019.

Matera the land of rocks
Matera, the most important troglodyte settlement in the west.
Capital of the province of the same name in the province of Basilicata, in southern Italy, it has been known since prehistoric times.
The route of Matera, in the centuries of filming, remains emblematic. Its ancient history, its characteristic residential structure, the houses-caves, the so-called Sassi, its unique, biblical physiognomy, defined the past and future of a city symbol of human anguish but also of the evolution of an isolated civilization.
Matera was declared a cultural heritage monument by UNESCO in 1993, while it is a candidate for the cultural capital of Europe for the year 2019.
